KETO and Eating Out
One of the best things about the Keto diet is that you can find something keto-friendly to eat at almost any restaurant. I've been on several kinds of diets in the past that made it next to impossible to eat out, which I now realize wasn't livable or realistic.
But on KETO, no matter where you go, you can almost always find something on the menu, either as presented or with a few simple modifications which most all places are more than happy to do for you!
Here are some of my favorites!
Bunless burgers, sandwiches without the bread, bunless cheesesteaks, salads, side of pickles, saute´ed veggies. If the restaurant serves breakfast, you can order eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheese... Just ask for no bread/biscuit/muffin.
You definitely don’t want to arrive at the restaurant starving... It’s a sure-fire way to decrease the chance you’ll stick to your diet.
By filling up with a light meal beforehand...
1. You’re less likely to make unhealthy food choices.
2. You can order a burger without a bun, or just a keto friendly side dish and you won’t still be hungry afterward.
And you can also pack some snacks to take with you just in case, so you don’t feel worried about being hungry at the end of your meal.
It’s true that certain types of restaurants are more Keto friendly than others.
Good Keto restaurant options include
Steakhouses,
Mediterranean/Greek and Middle Eastern restaurants,
Seafood restaurants,
Chinese restaurants, and
Some BBQ joints.
On the other hand…the restaurants you’ll want to try to avoid on Keto are...
Pizza joints,
Sandwich shops, and
Small Mexican or Italian restaurants.
With these ideas in mind, try to suggest keto friendly restaurants for meals out with family and your friends. Explain to them that this will help you stay on track with your weight-loss and health and ask for their support. It may even get a few of them to help themselves as well... Well, we can hope!
